Margaret Rushie Shimohara |
Mrs. Margaret Rushie Shimohara (Poston 325-9-D) was born
in May of 1923 in Seattle, Washington, and married Akiyoshi Frank
Shimohara. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, they were evacuated from Reedley,
California, and arrived at the Poston, Arizona concentration camp 3 on August 8,
1942 with their son, Koji. While in Poston, she gave birth to Wayne. She departed from the Poston, Arizona
concentration camp on June 9, 1945 and took her boys to Sanger, California.
She was 87 years old, and a well-known
teacher of ikebana, and died on January 20, 2011 in Gardena, California.
She is survived by her sons, Koji Shimohara and Wayne
(Evelyn) Shimohara; 4 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Reiko
Kurahara of Japan, Jane Yamamoto of Seattle, WA, and Sakatsu Hino of CO.
