Kikujiro Ichiuji (Poston 308-11-A) was born October
15, 1889, in Iya-Machi, Shimane-Ken, Japan, and came to California in 1905. Following
the attack on Pearl Habor, he moved his family to escape the early evacuation of
people of Japanese ancestry from the coast of California. Unfortunately they were eventually evacuated from Reedley, California
and arrived at Poston, Arizona concentration camp 3 on August 4, 1942. Mr. & Mrs. Ichiuji and Harry left Poston,
Arizona on July 2, 1945 and returned to Pacific Grove, California.
Kikujiro Ichiuji , proprietor of the
Grove Shoe Hospital, a shoe repair business and a widely respected member of
the Pacific Grove community for 34 years, died at his
home, 361 Spruce Ave. Mr. Ichiuji had been in failing health for three years.
He is survied by his wife, Mrs. Katsu
Ichiuji of Pacific Grove; five sons, Mickey and Paul Ichiuji of Pacific Grove,
Joseph of Washington, D.C., engaged in pharmaceutical studies in Salt Lake
City, and Harry Ichiuji of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Kazuame Oishi of
Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mrs. Chutaro Kato of Monterey; and two
granddaughters, Kikuye Ichiuji of Washington, D.C., and Mary Ichiuji of Pacific
Grove.
