SATO, TED TERUO (1926-2014)

Ted T. Sato
     Ted Teruo Sato (226-2-B) was born to Kuniji and Misao Sato on April 29,1926 in Redondo Beach, California.  Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the family voluntarily moved away from Military Zone 1 where they were living. They relocated to Strathmore, California in Tulare County to avoid the forced evacuation following the signing of Executive Order 9066 in February 1942. Unfortunately, the boundaries of "free" zone moved, and they were evacuated along with the people of Japanese ancestry living in the western states.  They arrived at the Poston, Arizona concentration camp 2 on July 17, 1942. While at Poston, his sister, Asako was married. 
   Ted left the Poston, Arizona camp on September 4, 1945 and went to resettle in Chicago, Illinois. His brother Hideo, and his parents left Poston, Arizona on November 12, 1945 and went to Chicago. While living in Chicago,Ted learned his trade as a mechanic and he also met his wife. 
     Ted Sato returned to California, and lived in Los Angeles, then moved to San Gabriel for the remainder of his life. He was a master mechanic until he retired in 1999. After retiring, he spent his days playing with the family dogs,taking care of his fish tank and car, and even returned to bowling for a short while. He loved to watch the Lakers and Dodger games. 
     Ted Sato, 87, of San Gabriel, California, died on February 14, 2014.
     He is survived by three daughters: Lynn (Craig W.Smith) Sato-Smith of Huntington Beach; Roxanne Bejar of Las Vegas; and Debbie (Frank M) Saito of San Gabriel; and six grandchildren, Steven M. Saito, Janis Bejar, Stephanie S. (Dan Lau) Saito, Ian M. R. Smith, Alissa M. Smith and Danny Mizufuka.
