Jackson Haruto
Niino (Poston 307-12-C) was born in Madera on March 22, 1925 to Nobuichi and Shizue Niino. He
attended Washington Union and Dinuba High School. The Niino family (Nobuichi,
Shizue, Yukio, Shigemi George, Fusako Jean, Haruto Jackson and Michiko) was evacuated
from Dinuba and incarcerated at the Poston
Arizona concentration camp 3, block 307-12-A & C on August 2, 1942. His
father was a member of the Poston Red Cross.
His sister, Fusako Jean was employed at the Parker Valley High School
Office. Michiko played on basketball on the block 307 girls team, Yukio was
involved with the judo school, and Haruto was involved with the community Activities
Department, and was the left fielder on the Firemen softball team, and played
for the block 307 basketball team and scored 53 points in 8 games. George
refused to be inducted into the Army in July, 1944 and left Poston on May 22,
1945 and went to New York. The rest of the family left Poston in September 1945
and returned to Dinuba.
Jackson served in the U.S. Army for five years
and a veteran of the Korean War. After military service he returned to Fresno
and married Chiyoko Rose Sato in 1963.
Jackson farmed until his retirement in 1991. Jackson died on January 15, 2006. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Nobuichi and Shizue Niino; brothers, Yukio Niino
(2003) and George Niino.
He is survived by
his wife, Chiyoko Rose; and sisters, Mineko and Fusako Fukushima, of Dinuba, and Michiko (Yutaka) Nakamichi of
Fresno.
