KAGEYAMA, JIN J. ( 1921-2012)

MARINA - Jin J. Kageyama was born on Franklin Street in Monterey on April 1, 1921 to Saichiro and Taka Kageyama (Poston 305-11-A). He had four brothers, Thomas, Masao, Giichi, and Isaac; and one sister, Mary. When he went to school, the teacher called him "Jim." She thought "Jin" was misspelled.

After high school, he worked in fishing. During World War II, he was incarcerated at the Poston, Arizona and Minidoka, Idaho concentration camps. He played the ukelele, harmonica, and enjoyed crossword puzzles. He did bonsai and was a member of the Satsuma Bonsai Club and Monterey Bonsai Club.

After the War, he went to Hawaii for two years, then returned to commercial fishing for sardines, and then tuna. He met Marian and they were married on February 1, 1953. They adopted their daughter, Adele, in 1964.

Jin went into gardening and then retired in 2006. He went to Shimane, Japan in 1999 and stayed at the family hotel.  He was a resident at the Batwal's Care Home since January, 2010 and died on November 19, 2012.
