Peggy Sumiko Kubota (Poston
2-11-A) was born on July 20, 1940 in Los Angeles, California to
American-born citizens, Fred Tetsuo and Naoko Kubota.
Following the signing of Executive Order 9066 and the
evacuation of people of Japanese ancestry on the West coast states, the Kubota
family: Fred, Naoko, and Peggy were forcibly evacuated to the Turlock Assembly
Center, where Mildred was born in June of 1942. The Kubota family was transferred
to the Poston Arizona concentration camp on October 9, 1942. The Kubota family was assigned to live at Poston camp 1 block 2-11-A. Her father, Fred left Poston on May 24, 1944
upon an invitation to Chicago. The rest
of the Kubota family left Poston, Arizona on October 17, 1944 and joined Fred
in Chicago.
The family eventually returned to southern California and
Peggy married Paul K. Masuzumi.
Peggy Sumiko (Kubota) Masuzumi was
a sansei resident of Gardena, died on December 23, 2010 at
the age of 70 years.
She is survived by husband, Paul; son, Glenn (Ana); and
daughters, Janice Masuzumi-Macaraeg, and
Sharon (Paul) Sawai; sisters, Mildred
Castro, and Kathleen (Steve) Kubota-Fox; and grandchildren, Brandon, Kristin
and Bryan Masuzumi; and Kailee and Karson Sawai.
