George Hashimoto |
George Hashimoto (Poston 305-9-CD) was
born on February
22, 1941 in Reedley, California, where he grew
up as the youngest of ten siblings born to Japanese immigrant parents, Junzo
and Tsuya (Hayashi) Hashimoto. He was evacuated with his parents and family and arrived
at the Poston Arizona concentration camp 3 on August 4,1942 and the family
returned to Reedley on August 4, 1945.
George was a graduate from Reedley High School and Reedley Junior College. He served six
years in the U.S. Air Force, with 2 years in View Nam. George played summer
baseball with the Reedley Sansei team with his brother Nori.
George married Norma K.
Miyakawa on July 31, 1971. George was a
multi-unit manager for several restaurant chains. He also owned and operated
restaurants, several liquor stores, and
most recently, the Rice Bowl Restaurant in Fresno with his son, Kevin. He was a
counselor, coach, and mentor to many employees over the years, and an avid
fisherman who enjoyed family fishing outings to the coast, Alaska, Oregon,
Washington, and Las Vegas.
George Hashimoto, age 71 years, died after a brief illness in Reno, Nevada
on August 4, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, Junzo (1966); mother, Tsuya (1954); brothers, Shig
(1990), Fumio (1990), and Akira (1990); and sister, Lily Yuriko (1995).
He is survived by his wife, Norma (Miyakawa); sons, Kevin (Melanie) Hashimoto,
Bryan (Amber) Hashimoto, and Greg Hashimoto and fiancé Shannon; grandchildren,
Mina and Reilly; brothers, Yas (Midori) Hashimoto,
Nori (Naomi) Hashimoto, and Akinobu Hashimoto; and sister, Mary Hashimoto.
